Dear families & staff,
On behalf of the High School PTSA, I would like to welcome you, or welcome you back, to High School East and West. I’m excited to be serving as President of your PTSA and look forward to a great year.
I would like to encourage you to sign-up and become a member of the PTSA. Dues are only $5.00 for the year. Anyone can be a member, and you can join a number of different PTA’s, if you happen to have students in more than one school. Being a member doesn’t mean that you automatically volunteer to help. That is strictly done by choice. Your membership helps the PTSA overall and allows you to participate in official PTSA business, if you so desire. It gives you a voice. We also encourage you to join us at the PTSA meetings.
Students are strongly encouraged to become members. After all the “S” in PTSA stands for “Student”. Money raised at the High School level goes mostly for students’ events. Their membership would give them a voice in how the money is spent.
Membership forms are available on this website. Just follow the link at the right. Volunteer information is also included on the Membership form.
A special event we are working on this year will be a “Showcase of Talent” which will include an evening of entertainment from all areas of the arts including; creative writing (poetry reading), instrument playing, photography, drawings, paintings, whatever the students would like to “showcase”. More details to follow.
I would like to take a moment to thank those who have helped the PTSA last year and those who continue to do so.
First, to the Executive Board: Sally Vanderzee, Vice-President, Rose Savallo, Treasurer and Maureen DiMaria, Secretary, thank you for your gifts of time, ideas and energy.
Thank you to Jessica Feeley and Tommy Flaim, our student liaisons, for being the voice of the students. Your time and efforts are appreciated.
Jackie Marshall for being our Treasurer for the past two years. Thank you so much for your time and attention to detail and for keeping our “books” in order!
Also, In January Jackie was the chairperson for the “Staff Appreciation Luncheon.” It was held during Regents week so that the staff could enjoy a leisurely lunch cooked up by the Shen catering department. Jackie did a wonderful job assuring that a great time was had by all.
June Costello & Edith Osaheni who co-chaired picture day last year and to June & Cheryl Hildenbrandt who did it this year. This is a huge undertaking and many hours of planning to assure it goes off without a hitch. Thank you June, Edith and Cheryl for making it work!!
Laura Huff, our Membership & Volunteer Coordinator who takes the time to be at both Open Houses to encourage parents, students and staff to become a member of the PTSA. Laura also worked with Jackie to provide the beautiful centerpieces for the “Staff Appreciation Luncheon.”
Also, Laura was called in at the last minute to help with the balloon arch for the Sophomore Class dance and did a beautiful job. They really appreciated her help and generosity.
Jane Stephan who keeps the Memorial Garden looking beautiful. Please stop by to share in its beauty and significance.
MaryBeth Nafis our website coordinator who has the patience of a saint waiting or me to provide her with information to put on the website.
Thank you to all of you who help make the PTSA great for everyone.
Sincerely,
Pam Kelly
